PEPNet Tools for Program Improvement

PEPNet Quality Self Assessment QSA: Enables program staff, participants and other stakeholders to self-evaluate the program on how well it currently satisfies each of the PEPNet Standards and respective indicators. The PEPNet Quality Self Assessment Tool (QSA) is a survey organized into four categories: Category 1: Management for Quality, Category 2: Programmatic Approach, Category 3: Youth Development Competencies, and Category 4: Focus on Youth Results. Each category is made up of a varying number of standards, and each standard includes a set of indicators that represent ways in which the standards take an operational form. The QSA is a highly comprehensive survey, containing over one hundred indicators. Participants filling out the survey rate each indicator on a 0-10 Likert scale, 0 being most negative and 10 most positive. Participants can also list "don't know" as their answer, indicating they do not know enough about their organization's performance in the area in question and would prefer not to rate it.

PEPNet Improvement Action Planning Template: Enables the user to turn the areas for improvement identified using the PEPNet QSA into improvement goals and create an action plan for each goal. The action plan includes action steps, timelines, and assignment of tasks.

PEPNet Online Index to Quality Practices: The Online Index to Quality Practices includes over 1000 specific quality practices identified from the 66 organizations nationally recognized (PEPNet Awarded) from 1996-2003 organized by the PEPNet Quality Standards.

The Index makes it possible for users to search for information by:
1) Specific PEPNet Quality Standard or indicator, practice.
2) Youth population served (including urban or rural),
3) Program funding stream, organization or any keyword the user chooses.
The Index is linked to PEPNet Awardee Profiles including contact information, a brief description of the program and its background, mission, funding sources and target population. Each profile also contains examples of the program's quality practices.

NYEC is no longer offer online versions of the QSA and Action Planning Template due to changes in how the QSA is currently administered and analyzed by NYEC. We believe that these changes will maximize the effectiveness of PEPNet tools. If you have any questions, or would like to use the tools, please contact NYEC at nyecadmin@nyec.org.
